Analysis of IEEE 802.11b/g Card Behavior in Multirate Ad-hoc Networks

چکیده
In multirate ad-hoc networks, mobile stations usually adapt their transmission rates to the channel conditions. This paper investigates the behavior of IEEE 802.11b/g cards in a multirate ad-hoc environment. WLAN network cards from different vendors are analyzed. The theoretical upper bound estimation of the throughput in multirate ad-hoc networks is derived. The measurement scenarios and obtained results are presented. For result validation the theoretical and experimental values are compared.

MAC Layer Measurements for Supporting QoS in IEEE 802.11 Ad-Hoc Networks
This paper presents a measurement module for Wireless LAN card working in IEEE 802.11b together with an implementation, measurements and overall QoS architecture in ad-hoc mode. In this mode the wireless card allows for best-effort services transfer using IEEE 802.11 MAC layer DCF function. In order to support services with defined QoS level in IEEE 802.11b network, prior implementation of accu...
متن کاملAn Efficient Multicast Routing Protocol in Multi-rate Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
In wireless ad hoc networks, many multicast routing protocols are proposed such as ODMRP, MAODV, etc. In general, the IEEE 802.11 standard is assumed as a MAC protocol in those protocol and multicast data packets are transmitted at the basic transmission rate which is 2Mbps at the IEEE 802.11 or 802.11b. However, if the multicast packet can be transmitted at higher transmission rates than 2Mbps...
متن کاملReduced Packet Probing Multirate Adaptation For Multihop Ad Hoc Wireless Networks
In this paper, we conduct a systematic experimental study to identify the challenges for multirate adaptation in the context of multihop ad hoc networks. We first investigate the existing multirate adaptation algorithms to study how they operate in multihop ad hoc networks and obtain insights on the sources of their behavior. Second, we design and implement a novel multirate adaptation scheme, ...
متن کاملA Rate-adaptive MAC Protocol Based on TCP Throughput for Ad Hoc Networks in fading channels
Wireless technology is becoming a leading option for future Internet access. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is one of the protocols designed on the basis of the transmission characteristics in wired networks. It is known that the TCP performance deteriorates drastically under a wireless communication environment. On the other hand, many wireless networking standards such as IEEE 802.11a, 8...
متن کاملA Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks
Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
